wednesday witter

Well, so far this week it’s been glorious sunshine and we’ve ben taking full advantage and going out with the kids as much as possible.  Yesterday morning was a bit gloomy so I/we decided to paint the downstairs hallway which was looking battered, dull and very magnolia.  We only moved in last year and haven’t done any decorating as the whole house is magnolia and not desperate, but bit by bit we will freshen the place up and drop a hint of colour in here and there.    Amid the painting chaos (try painting the main thoroughfare with three kids and two dogs) was my husband, screwdriver in hand, taking off wall sockets for me to paint under and installing a new doorbell.  In doing so we managed to set the house alarm off that would then not deactivate.  It was interesting to see how husband and I react in a crisis.  I was methodically thinking of what we could do to stop it and trying out a few things; Husband was shouting and running around like a headless chicken.  His enraged shouts of ‘Where’s the bloody screwdriver gone?’ as he was on the phone to the alarm company and trying to take the fuse out just made me giggle (which did not calm the atmosphere!).  Alarm muted, he then proceded to fix the (2nd) new doorbell he’d bought.  Unsuccessfully.  The previous one worked fine but was in the hallway and was big ugly and yellowing.  Half an hour of googling wiring diagrams later I suggested he just put white case of the new doorbell over the old one.  Ta-da!  Job done in 2 minutes!  Well, an hour and 5 minutes….

How’s your week been so far?  If you’re blogging today, why not link up below and meet a few new bloggers?

  1. Think you are very brave attempting to paint with 3 kids and 2 dogs in the house. My husband is hopeless at DIY and I am fairly sure we’d have ended up with a similar end result on the doorbell situation to you. If I would have let him attempt it in the first place. Scarring from previous attempts means he is now limited to putting pictures up – not sure if it’s my supervision or the pressure of not bodging it up, but even that brings him out in a nervous sweat!

    • Yes, the fact that I have demolished walls, wired up lighting and hung doors became a irrelevant the day we got married…..also the day I learned to bite my tongue and say ‘It looks lovely, dear’.

  2. Can I ask whether dogs or children are similar colour to the walls? 50 shades of grey I understand is your colour?!!

  3. You’ve got to love men for their practical minds… ;)

  4. Ah, DIY! Can’t beat it for a bit of stress. We moved into our house two years ago and there are still umpteen jobs like that I’ve been too busy* to do. *Can’t be bothered with the hassle that will ensue when I do them. :-)

  5. That made me smile, and they don’t like it do they, when you snicker at their attempts at DIY. 3 kids, 2 dogs and a burglar alarm ringing – chaos!

  6. im in awe of you deciding to do some painting..last time i did that my OH watched me for about 10 minutes before he couldnt help himself but tell me i was not doing it right!! So i just leave it too him now!
