Another Wednesday, another witter….join in; link up or comment

wednesday witter

I went to the seaside on Monday.  Dymchurch to be precise.  The kids loved it and they had what I call toddler rides which my kids LOVED.  I went there as a child, so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane but as ever, adult eyes betrayed the joys of youthful exhilaration and where I now saw rubbish and tattoos, they saw bumper cars and ice cream.  Health and Safety won the day with the Helter Skelter being a filled in tube ride and the bumper cars having a notice requiring ‘No Bumping’.  Really?  But THAT’S what it’s all about!!!

Have we really come so far down the litigious ladder that even fairground rides are tamed to indulge a society that will sue you for an extra-splashy log flume?  It seems so.  I half-expected the ghost train to have a disclaimer to sign as you burst through the firts set of luminous doors….

All this aside, we paddled in the sea and posted an awful lot of 2Ps into the arcade machines.  It was a good old-fashioned day at the seaside and the kids loved it as much as I did.  Just don’t mention the public toilets….20p for the privilege of being locked in a cubicle of iniquity that made me crave dettol and a tetanus booster….

  1. I like your comment about how we see things differently through adult eyes.

Another thing that strikes me is to see again that the seaside in Britain is very much the sea + amusement park., or at least a ride, an ice-cream hut or a shop selling buckets and spade, isn’t it? I haven’t been used to that in France, we only had the sea :)

  2. Sounds like you had a great day out but no bumping on the bumper cars? What has the world come to eh? I’m about to go on a two week blogging break and I will hopefully link up again when I’ve returned!

  3. The world is truly mad – non bumping bumper cars. Daft. Glad you had a good time.

  4. Dear oh dear- they’ll have a non waltzing waltzer next!
