It seems to be goodbye summer as the rain falls from the heavens and perks up my withering garden. However, I was not best pleased this morning having spent a minor fortune on a cut and blow-dry. My lovely hairdresser had given me a ‘Middleton Mane’ and I swooshed out of the salon feeling about 10 years younger, only to be faced with incessant drizzle and gusty winds so by the time I reached the car park I had reclaimed my true age and looked like one of the Wild Women of Wonga….
I do like my hairdresser. She greets me with a ‘mwah’ on the cheek and remembers what I wittered on about in my last visit, which was in June, so I was quite impressed. She also is very good at what she does and as it is an Aveda salon she gives you a little mini-makeover before you leave. Nothing like a bit of blusher and lip gloss to send you on your way.
Then I picked up Littlest from nursery and hurried home because the health visitor was coming to give her the 2 year check. Even though she is 2½. Littlest was on fine form and short of a top hat and cane was giving the bemused woman a bit of a cabaret. When she started reciting her colours and counting the spots on her Mr Tumble ball I did have to lean over and say ‘I haven’t put her up to this, I promise’. It was as if I had bribed her with a large tube of smarties to do the ‘look how clever I am’ show. She is clever and she is fairly advanced for her age, particularly vocally. But this is due to her being no. 3 and not, alas, down to my sensational parenting. In fact, if anything I have just let her get on with it as I tackle the trials of each day and she has quite happily mucked in with her older siblings and that teeny competitive streak we gingers have means she is determined to keep up. And then some.
I am somewhat weary as we have had a couple of late nights. I bought the box set of ‘Homeland’ as I missed it when it was on TV and it is totally addictive. Like the large tin of Quality Street at Christmas, you finish one and can’t resist the urge for just one more. And then another…
No surprises it is by the people who made ’24′ which had a similar effect on our nocturnal habits. I am also claiming an allegiance with fellow ginge, Damian Lewis. Especially as he’s just won an Emmy for it. Hurrah! Ginger and British! And he used the word ‘pesky’ in his speech. Love that word. My supposed doppelgänger and very famous person who wished me Happy Birthday on Twitter, Julianne Moore also won an Emmy. Hurrah again! Another ginger! And I love her acting, so good stuff all ’round in my opinion.
On the agenda for tonight is get the kids to bed at a reasonable time, supper, marking and then maybe an episode of Homeland. Or two.

LOVE Homelands from another British ginger ;-)
Gingers unite!
your daughter sounds lovely. your surely a great mum
I live in hope….:)
Homeland was awesome; can’t wait for series two! I too need to get my barnet cut – have to get my picture taken for work and look like Wolverine. Oh dear.
Homeland was undoubtedly thrilling. Prisoners of War, which the story was taken from was darker & much more involved – I’ve just finished watching it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/2012/jul/12/prisoners-of-war-hatufim-boxset
Now I haven’t watched homeland, but I so get the addiction to a good TV series – Lost, Heroes, True Blood … I’m hooked. Your hairdresser sounds fab – and a mini make over at the end! I see you are going to the Mumsnet blogging conference – I would love to go but not sure I can afford it. I see that Caitlin Moran is the key note speaker though.
Ha, can imagine you swooshing out of the hairdressers :) are we still wiittering Wednesday?
